Blog Introduction

This blog accompanies my online classes on World Music.  As an introduction to the blog, I want to express my own feelings and thoughts about music.

Solfeggio Sacred Scale Harp

I believe music is an important part of life and I always wanted to be a musician.  Sometime after I graduated from college with my master’s degree in World Music, I learned that music in equal temperament is out of tune because there are no pure intervals, except for the octave.  Equal temperament has been a part of all of the traditional instruments in European classical music since the early part of the 20th century.  There are many advantages to the chromaticism and modulations that are available in equal temperament, but with the cost of the loss of the clarity with having pure intervals.

Several months ago, I saw some videos from an online Sound Healing Conference.    One of the presentations was by Carola Rose Kelly on the solfeggio frequency sacred scale harp.  Hearing the harp was one of the most awe-inspiring experiences of my life because all nine of the sacred scale frequencies resonated with each other.  I don’t believe this is possible in any other known scale.  (The frequencies are 174, 285, 396, 417, 528, 639, 741, 852, 963,) All 9 of the frequencies are multiples of the number 3, 6 or 9.  Nicola Tesla reportedly said “If you only knew the magnificence of the 3, 6 and 9, then you would have the key to the universe.”  Although he may not have said these exact word, it is likely a paraphrase of his fascination with numbers and patterns.  The solfeggio frequency scale is not found in any historical musical instruments.  Therefore, I am not discussing these frequencies in any of my World Music classes.

We live in a magical universe and the youth of today will create a beautiful world where people will experience wondrous things we haven’t yet dreamed of.
